Mobile treatment facility for a holiday home, Pionerskoye settlement

Wastewater treatment for a holiday home within the specially protected area near Pionerskoye settlement, Primorsk residential location, Vyborg area, Leningrad region. The wastewater is treated at the mobile station, which requires minimal construction works.

Solution to which problem

The design of the treatment facilities had to take into consideration the location: the holiday home is located in the vicinity of the Pionerskoye lake, within the specially protected area. Further, the facilities couldn't involve large construction works.

Technical conditions

Capital construction and landscape modifications are prohibited on the territory. Liquid domestic waste treatment on this location is neither possible nor practical, since there are no treatment facilities in any reasonable proximity. Long-term storage of wastewater is not possible either, as it's not possible to provide proper storage conditions. However, it was necessary to provide the possibility of expanding the treatment facilities, minimize the maintenance efforts, and reduce the need for the permanent presence of the maintenance personnel.

Implementation

The holiday home has a designed wastewater treatment process on a above-ground mobile treatment plant. The ready station requires minimal construction work during installation, needs a flat area with a size of 6x2.5m on which a reinforced concrete plate is built, to which the working module of the station is installed. Power supply and sewerage network are connected to the station, after which the equipment is ready for operation.

The station is fully automated, it has a a self-balancing process of deep biological cleaning, due to which the station does not require constant microbiological control and constant presence of maintenance personnel at the facility. The applied technology makes it possible to reduce the formation of sludge by a factor of 10 due to the construction of longer supply chains within the biocenosis of treatment facilities. This allows the organic substrate inside the wastewater be more efficiently processed.

Due to the use of immobilized biocenosis, the ASB (Aerated Stabilisation Basins)-process technology allows treatment plants to operate from 10% of the nominal load. The equipment uses an innovative loop loading for the attached biocenosis, which provides an increase in the efficiency of the biological stage by 20% in comparison with the traditional cleaning technology with free-floating activated sludge.

The treatment plant equipment is made of polymeric materials (polypropylene) with a service life of 60 years, which significantly reduced the life cycle costs of the treatment plant for the customer. The station includes a full range of mechanical and biochemical wastewater treatment. The modular wastewater treatment plant implements biological nitrogen removal and chemical phosphate removal processes. Before release, biochemically treated wastewater undergoes ultraviolet disinfection.

To level the high unevenness of the wastewater flow in terms of qualitative and quantitative composition, the station provides an increased internal recirculation, which makes it possible to use the volume of the station as an equalizer. This solution allows maintaining the biological stage of purification in the absence of external organic load, using the formed sediment and overgrown biomass as a substrate.

Result

The system functions satisfactorily. During its operation it has successfully passed all necessary examinations, has demonstrated simplicity and reliability in operation. The station requires scheduled periodic maintenance, which includes unloading the formed sediment no more than once every six months, and routine maintenance of the post-treatment and UV disinfection unit no more than once a quarter per year.
