EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region
The EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is an agreement between the EU member states bordering the Baltic Sea (Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland) and the European Commission. The strategy has three main objectives:
- Save the Sea
- Connect the Region
- Increase Prosperity.
To achieve these objectives, the Strategy’s Action Plan identifies the most important actions for implementation. The actions are thematically divided into 14 Policy Areas (PAs) which are all linked and contribute to achieving these objectives from different angles and in diverse ways. The policy areas cover topics such as security, transport, innovation, nutrients and hazardous substances.
The member states hold presidency of the strategy in an annually rotating manner. The president state changes every year in July.
